France 1998 was Italy's 14th appearance in the World Cup Finals.

Best World Cup Performance:
Italy have won the World Cup three times: Italy 1934, France 1938, and Spain 1982.

The Azurri were also runners up in 1970, and 1994; third in 1990; and fourth in 1978. Quite an impressive record.

17th June: vs. Cameroon (3:0) in Montpellier.

23rd June: vs. Austria (2-1) in Saint-Denis.

Italy had a lucky start against Chile, and managed to hold off the terrible, last-minute Austrians; for a place in the Second Round.

Knockout Stage

Second Round
27th June: vs. Norway (1:0) in Marseilles.

Against Norway, in the Second Round, Italy effectively killed off the match when Vieri scored his fifth goal of the tournament; in the eighteenth minute.

Quarter-Finals
3rd July: vs. France (0:0 aet) in Saint-Denis.

Italy didn't look much much livelier against France, in the quarter-finals; scoring a blank and losing on penalties.
