The 2002 World Cup Finals Draw.

Korea-Japan 2002 Pots - 32 Countries

Seeded Teams

Argentina, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, South Korea and Spain.

Pot 2 - Remaining 11 European Teams

Belgium, Croatia, Denmark, England, Poland, Portugal, Rep. of Ireland, Russia, Slovenia, Sweden and Turkey.

One European team will go into each group, with the remaining three Europeans going into groups without European seeds; so no three Europeans will be drawn together.

Pot 3

China, Ecuador, Paraguay, Saudi Arabia and Uruguay.

These teams will be drawn into the remaining 5 groups; once pot 2 is emptied, with China going to a group in Korea and Saudi Arabia to a group in Japan.

Pot 4

Cameroon, Costa Rica, Mexico, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, Tunisia and United States.

Africa and CONCACAF make up pot 4 and will be drawn into the last slot in each group - at least two African teams and one from CONCACAF will play in either Korea or Japan.

The day before the the draw, FIFA announced that the winners of the 2002 World Cup would not qualify automatically for the 2006 World Cup, to be held in Germany.

11:40 - In come the co-presidents...... of the organising associations.... Korea and Japan.... the world cup changes hands...... The World Cup is only on display for the draw.... it's ceremonial..... France are Holders until May!

11:55 - We're still here..... all the qualified countries are getting a little airplay.....

12:20 - Still no England out of Pot 2.....

12:23 - England get drawn with Argentina....
