Going into the final games on October 8th, 2005:
Togo (20pts) and Senegal (18pts) lead the standings, with Senegal at home to Mali and Togo
away to Congo. Senegal have to win and hope that Togo lose.
A 3-2 win for Togo assured them of
a place in Germany 2006.
Group 2
South Africa,
Dem. Rep. of Congo, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Uganda and Cape Verde.
Going into the final games on October 8th, 2005:
A draw between South Africa (15pts) and Congo DR (15pts) would hand qualification to Ghana
(18pts) - if they fail to get a point, away to Cape Verde.
Ghana made it all look easy with
a 4-0 win in Cape Verde.
Group 3
Cameroon, Egypt, Côte d'Ivoire, Libya, Sudan and Benin.
Going into the final games on October 8th, 2005:
Cameroon (20pts) beat Côte d'Ivoire (19pts) 3-2 on Sunday, September 4th in Abidjan - to
put them in the driving seat when the entertain Egypt (16pts), who are out of the race.
Côte d'Ivoire travel to Sudan and will need to win and hope Egypt's pride alone will make
them hard to beat.
With the Cameroon-Egypt game at 1-1, Pierre Wome missed a penalty in
injury-time; which would have given them a place in the 2006 World Cup Finals.
Côte d'Ivoire beat Sudan
3-1 to win the group.
Group 4
Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Algeria, Angola, Gabon and Rwanda.
Going into the final games on October 8th, 2005:
Nigeria (18pts) need to win at home to Zimbabwe (15pts) if they want to try and finish
ahead of Angola (18pts) - who play away to Rwanda. Angola beat Nigeria at home and drew

qualified by beating Rwanda 1-0.

Morocco took the lead twice in their deciding fixture but a 2-2 draw
(thanks to a Talal El Karkouri goal in his own net) ensured that Tunisia became the 5th African nation to qualify for the
