The ten lowest-ranked teams were initially paired into five home and
away ties.
Stage Two - May to October, 2008.
48 teams entered the preliminary draw, to play in 12 groups of four
teams.
Stage Three - March to November, 2009.
Sorted into five groups of four teams the twelve, Stage Two group
winners and eight best runners-up (20 teams) contest another round-robin, home and away
competition.
The five group winners qualify for the 2010
World Cup Finals.
Algeria, Cameroon,
Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Nigeria.
