Australia vs Japan in Kaiserslautern:
After going behind to a dubious goal in the first-half, Guus Hiddink pokered everything on attacking substitutions in the second.

Brazil vs Australia in München:
Australia kept it tight in the first-half but Brazil's quality and Australia's poor finishing means that if the Socceroos lose to Croatia, they're out.

Croatia vs Australia in Stuttgart:
Australia twice came back from behind to get the draw they needed to qualify for the knockout stage, as Graham Poll went mad with the cards.

Knockout Stage

Second Round
Italy vs Australia in Kaiserslautern:
Australia couldn't score against ten men for ninety minutes as Guss Hiddink saved two substitutes for extra-time; but didn't need them.
