Major League Soccer was founded in 1993 as part of the United
States' successful bid to host the 1994
World Cup.
MLS has since expanded to 19 teams; with teams divided into Eastern
and Western Conferences.
They do like to do things a little differently in the United States so
the fixture balance seems a little skewed with teams in each conference playing each other
three times.
Three teams are also based in Canada: Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver.
In 2015, MLS will expand to 21 teams with New York City and Orlando
City joining. Atlanta is also scheduled to have a Major League Soccer franchise in 2017
and talk is ongoing about Miami joining the club..
Eastern Conference
Chicago Fire, Columbus Crew, DC United, Houston Dynamo, Montreal
Impact, New England Revolution, New York Red Bulls, Philadelphia Union, Sporting Kansas
City, Toronto FC.
Western Conference
Chivas USA, Colorado Rapids, FC Dallas, LA Galaxy, Portland Timbers,
Real Salt Lake, San Jose Earthquakes, Seattle Sounders, Vancouver Whitecaps.
Major League Winners
DC United and LA Galaxy have been the most successful clubs in Major League Soccer.
