From March 31st to April 13th, Pope John Paul II flew to South America again, visiting Montevideo (Uruguay); Santiago, Valparaiso, Punta Arenas, Puerto Montt, Concepcion, Temuco, La Serena and Antofagasta (Chile); Buenos Aires (World Youth Day), Bahia Blanca, Viedma, Mendoza, Cordoba, Tucuman, Salta, Corrientes, Parana and Rosario (Argentina).

Pope John Paul II travelled to North America from September 10th to September 21st, visiting Miami, Columbia, New Orleans, San Antonio, Phoenix, Los Angeles, Monterey, Carmel, San Francisco (where he met with AIDS patients at Mission Dolores Basilica and embraced a little boy called Brendan) and Detroit before flying on to Edmonton and Fort Simpson (Canada).

Pope John Paul II finally made it down to Southern Africa, from September 10th to September 20th, visiting Harare and Bulawayo (Zimbabwe); Gaborone (Botswana); Maseru, Thaba-Bosiu and Roma (Lesotho); Manzini (Swaziland); Maputo, Beira and Nampula (Mozambique).
