again from February 3rd to February 10th, visiting Cotonou and Parakou (Benin); Entebbe, Kampala, Gulu,
Kasese and Soroti (Uganda); and
Khartoum (Sudan).

On April 25th, Pope John Paul II made a day-trip across the
Adriatic; visiting Tirana and Skutari (Albania).
While in in the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento, during the
pastoral visit in Sicily (on May 9th), Pope John Paul II appealed to men of the mafia to
convert.

The archaeological area known as the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento, Sicily, is one of
the most important archaeological sites in the world and a UNESCO world heritage site,
since 1998.
On June 7th, it was the turn of the President of the Republic of
Slovakia, Michal Kovac, to visit
Pope John Paul II.

On his fourth visit to Spain, from June 12th to June 17th, Pope John
Paul II travelled to Seville, Dos Hermanas, Huelava, Moguer, Palos de la Frontera, La
Rabida, El Rocio and Madrid (Spain).

From August 9th to August 16th, Pope John Paul was on the road again,
this time travelling to Kingston (Jamaica);
Merida and
Izamal (Mexico); Denver
and St. Malo Retreat Center (USA).

From September 4th to September 10th, Pope John Paul II travelled to
The Baltic States, visiting Vilnius, Kaunas, Siauliai and Siluva (Lithuania); Riga and Aglona (Latvia); and Tallinn (Estonia).
The President of Argentina, Carlos Saul Menem, visited Pope John
Paul II on December 16th.
Pope John Paul II received the President of the Federal Republic of
Germany, Richard von Weizsäcker (on March 3rd); the President of the Czech Republic, Vaclav Havel (on March 7th);
the Prime Minister of Israel, Yitzhak
Rabin (on March 17th); and his 4th President of the United States of America, Bill Clinton (on June
2nd).
Apostolic Voyage 62
Having cancelled his planned visit to Sarajevo, Pope John Paul II gave
Mass at Castelgandolfo for Bosnia-Herzegovina on September 8th, two days before leaving
for Zagreb (Croatia).
