Sweden vs Spain
in Innsbruck.
Saturday, 14th June at 18.00
Sweden and Spain both started the game on three
points.
Despite the somewhat cautious start by Spain, Fernando Torres stabbed
his boot out to meet David Silva's chip and put the Spaniards in front with just quarter
of an hour played.
Sweden took a while to impose themselves and didn't really look that
threatening until Fredrik Stoor broke down the right and crossed into the penalty area.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic managed to shake off Sergio Ramos and send the ball under Iker
Casillas' hand.
Spain had a penalty claim turned down just before the break, as David
Silva was clattered to the ground in an aerial challenge with Johan Elmander.
Half-time - 1:1
Zlatan Ibrahimovic was replaced at half-time to 'preserve his knee'.
The game started to look a little stale and needed a spark of
creativity from somewhere.
In the 68th minute, Marcos Senna tried to liven things up, by going
through the middle and forcing Andreas Isaksson into a diving save.
Apart from that, it almost seemed as if both teams were happy with a
point.
If you fell asleep as the clock ticked into injury time, you would
have missed the highlight of the match as David Villa sped through onto a long clearance,
turned Carlos Marchena and slid the ball past Isaksson.
The injury-time winner probably means that Spain will avoid Holland in
the quarter-final.
