Greece vs Russia
in Salzburg.
Saturday, 14th June at 20.45
A win for either team would put them on the same
points as Sweden. If Greece lose, the reigning European Champions will be out.
While Greece did have an opportunity to score, it was Russia who took
the lead, in the 34th minute, when Sergei Semak (with Nikopolidis running out of his goal
towards him on the touchline) flicked the ball back for Konstantin Zyrianov to score in an
open net.
Spain would win Group D if Russia hold out to beat Greece.
Half-time - 0:1
Greece started to play with more passion around the 52nd minute mark,
after Russia looked like they were going to double their lead on a couple of occasions.
But it was too little too late for the defending champions.
If Roman Pavluchenko had taken half of his chances, Greece would have
been buried long ago.
