Germany have made nine previous appearances at the European
Championship Finals (five of these as West Germany): 1972, 1976, 1980, 1984, 1988, 1992,
1996, 2000 and 2004.
Germany have won the trophy three times (Belgium 1972, Italy 1980 and
England 1996) and came home as runners-up twice (Yugoslavia 1976 and Sweden 1992).
