Italy have made six previous appearances at the European Championship
Finals: in 1968, 1980, 1988, 1996, 2000 and 2004.
Italy were crowned European Champions when they hosted the tournament
in 1968, finished runners-up at Belgium-Netherlands 2000, semi-fianlists at West Germany
1988, and finished fourth when they hosted the tournament for a second time in 1980.

Italy have made 16 World Cup Finals appearances:
1934, 1938, 1950, 1954, 1962, 1966, 1970, 1974, 1978, 1982, 1986, 1990, 1994, 1998, 2002 and 2006.
Italy have won the World Cup four times (Italy 1934, France 1938, Spain 1982 and Germany 2006) and finished
runners-up twice (Mexico 1970
and USA 1994). The Italians also
came third in Italy 1990 and
fourth in Argentina 1978.
