The 15km mass start was added to Olympic programme.
With silver in the 20km and 12.5km pursuit, and bronze in the 15km
mass start, Norway's Ole Einar
Bjoerndalen brought his total medal haul to nine; having won gold in all four biathlon
events in Salt Lake City 2002.
Ice Hockey
Appearing in her third consecutive Winter Olympics, Canada's Hayley
Wickenheiser brought her medal tally to two golds and a silver, thanks to a final win
against Sweden.
Luge
With his second luge singles win, Armin
Zoeggeler became the only athlete from Italy to win four consecutive Olympic medals.
Skating
Team pursuit was added to the speed skating programme in Italy.
Skiing
Snowbaoard cross became the third snowboard event to be contested at
the Winter Olympics.
