Index: Summer Olympic Games |

Throughout the years, the Olympic Games have played a part in the
making of history and, even in the commercial age of million dollar sponsorships, are
still considered the highest achievement of athletes all over the world.
Gold medals have replaced the olive branch and breath-taking records
continue to be broken, by the highest achievers.
The modern history of the Olympic Games commences in 1896 and
continues to the present day.
Only the outbreak of the two World Wars have kept the scheduled
Olympics out of the starting blocks; in 1916, 1940 and 1944.
Staging the Olympic Games has always been an honour, although it's
getting more complex and costly to put together the infrastructure needed for such a
global event.
The costs of hosting the Olympics are high but the reward of having
staged a successful Olympic Games, where the world's greatest athletes and sports fans
come together to taste another culture, is the ultimate triumph for the hosts.
