Aquatics

Mark Spitz brought home seven gold medals for the United States; breaking seven world records and taking his tally to nine career gold medals, one silver and one bronze.

Archery

Although archery appeared on the Olympic Stage in 1900, 1904, 1908 and 1920, international rules had not been sufficiently developed and the sport disappeared from the Olympics for more than 50 years; eventually making its return in Munich.

Athletics

At 16, Ulrike Meyfarth became the youngest person of either sex to win an athletics gold medal in an individual event; when she beat her personal best leap over the high jump, by seven centimeters, to tie the world record and earn a gold medal.

Gymnastics

Olga Korbut won three gold medals and a silver at the Munich Olympic Games and would follow that up with another gold and silver in Montreal 1976.

Modern Pentathlon

By winning individual gold and team silver, Hungary's András Balczó brought his modern pentathlon medal tally to five; having previously won team gold in Rome 1960 and Mexico City 1968 Olympics, along with the individual silver in Mexico City.
