XXII Winter Olympic Games.
Twelve new events make their debut at the Sochi Games: freeskiing
halfpipe (men and women), women’s ski jumping, biathlon mixed relay, luge team relay,
figure skating mixed team event, snowboard parallel special slalom (men and women), and
slopestyle skiing and snowboarding (men and women).
Saturday, 8th February
Five sets of medals were played today.
Snowboard
The first gold medal of Sochi 2014 went to Sage Kotsenburg of USA; in
the Men's Slopestyle Finals, at the Rosa Khutor Extreme Park.
Double Gold for Norway
Ole
Einar Bjoerndalen (Biathlon - Men's 10km Sprint) and Iron Lady, Marit Bjoergen
(Cross-Country - Ladies' Skiathlon 7.5km Classic + 7.5km Free Skiathlon) made it two early
golds for Norway.
Skating - Flying Dutchmen
Sven Kramer
led the way in a gold, silver, bronze triumph for the Netherlands in the Men's 5,000m
Speed Skating event; setting a new Olympic Record of 6:10.76 in the process.
Freestyle
Later in the evening, Justine Dufour-Lapointe
finished ahead of her sister, Chloe, as Canada took gold and silver in the Ladies' Moguls
- Freestyle Skiing.

Eight sets of medals.
Alpine Skiing - Mens Downhill
Matthias
Mayer of Austria took the early gold of the day, in the men's downhill.
Snowboard - Ladies' Slopestyle

Cross Country - Men's 15km + 15km Skiathlon

Irene Wust (Netherlands); Martina Sablikova (Czech Republic); Olga
Graf (Russia).
Biathlon - Women's 7.5km Sprint

Semerenko (Ukraine)
Luge - Men's Singles
Felix Loch (Germany); Albert Demchenko (Russia); Armin Zoeggeler
(Italy).
Figure Skating - Team Ice Dance Free Dance
