Botswana is famous for the Kalahari Desert and Okavango Delta.
Other areas to visit while on safari in Botswana are Chobe River,
Kasane, Kgalagadi, Linyanti Swamp, Makgadikgadi Pans, Maun, Nxai, and Tuli Block.
As Botswana offers some of the best game viewing and finest safari
camps in all of Africa, you can expect to pay quite high prices for a safari in Botswana.
The Botswana government has helped to create these high prices, by
granting safari companies exclusive use of vast private concession areas and limiting the
number of visitors to each area.
Okavango Delta
Botswana's Okavango Delta is often thought of as Africa's finest
wetland area.
Visitors to the Okavango Delta can paddle quietly among the reeds by
mokoro canoe, observing the birds and reptiles that inhabit the area.
To view the larger hippos and buffalo, it may be necessary to travel
through the papyrus swamps by motorboat.
Linyanti Swamp
Linyanti lies to north of the Okavango Delta, and it is here that
visitors to Botswana travel to view elephants during the dry season (June to October).
Predators in the area include lion, leopard, hyena, cheetah and wild
dogs and it is often recommended to combine a visit to Linyanti with the Okavango Delta.
Kalahari Desert
A visit to the Central Kalahari reserves is best made between November
and May, when the light rains bring the normally parched land to life and encourage game
to visit the green pastures.
Magkadikgadi Pans
The salt pans of Makgadikgadi, once a vast prehistoric lake, can be
found in the heart of Botswana.
Botswana Safaris
Some Botswana safari companies offer game-viewing from the air;
especially if their safari camp is only accessible by light aircraft.
A good Botswana safari would probably run from seven to ten days; with
maybe a night drive included.
Not all guests are looking for the same safari experience in Botswana,
so it pays to research what the Botswana safari company includes to find the one that
offers the best value for your interests.
