Founded in 1847 by Mormons fleeing persecution back East, the city features broad avenues
and spacious blocks, based on an easily navigable grid system.
With some of the deepest, driest snow in the world, and no less than
seven major ski resorts located within an hour’s drive of downtown, it’s no
wonder Salt Lake City has long been a favorite winter playground. But there’s more to
Salt Lake City than winter sports and Olympics hype.

out of a huge slope-side nozzle, draws avid skiers from around the world.
There are eleven alpine ski areas within 55 miles of Salt Lake, and their average annual
snowfall ranges from 300 to 500 inches.

There's a reason Salt Lake City won the much-coveted opportunity to
host the XIX Winter Olympics in 2002 and it has
nothing to do with shady back room deals: The place is simply spectacular for winter
