So you're heading out for the ski slopes, but you don't want to
spend all of your savings on the one ski vacation.
Here are some tips to make your skiing holiday fun but frugal.
First things first; make sure you plan ahead.
Ski Package Deals
Have a look at package deals first. There is often big savings if you
purchase a ski pass, and/or ski school with your accommodation instead of separately.
Book these well in advance for the best deals. If the deals you prefer
don't include ski passes, have a look at alternatives such as half-day passes, or hourly
passes, which are both cheaper if you are not planning to ski all day.
Ski Holiday Dates
What dates are you planning your ski holiday for?
School holidays mean premium prices, so to make the best saving on
cheap ski holidays, try and go during school term times if at all possible.
Ski Carriage Charges
If you are taking your own skis, watch out for those airlines who are charging exorbitant amounts for ski
carriage.
Ryanair, for example, charges £50 per one-way flight to carry skis.
Other airlines such as British Airways, or SWISS, whose flight tickets
may be a little more expensive, will carry skis for free under certain conditions, saving
you money in the long run.
Where to Ski
For cheap ski holidays, forget the traditional expensive resorts in France or Switzerland
and think about somewhere like Slovenia; where the
cost of living is cheaper, English is spoken, and the skiing is outstanding.
Buy Ski Gear at Home
Make sure you buy any ski gear you need well before you go and check
out some of the discount stores online for a good deal.
Make sure your ski gearalso includes little things like goggles, hats,
sunglasses, gloves and plenty of warm socks, can cost much more in the mountain ski
resorts.
Ski Accommodation
What sort of accommodation are you looking for?
Although you are sure to be tired after a long day out in the snow, it
is far cheaper to book self-catering accommodation than catered.
If you take some easy to cook meals with you, its then simple to
put a meal on the table quickly with little effort, and far cheaper than paying for the
chalet girl.
Book Cheap Ski Holidays Online
Lastly, make sure you research and book your cheap ski holiday online.
Most holidays are cheaper online and skiing is no exception. Without
the overheads of high street shops, ski holiday websites are quick, cheap, and secure.
Be sure to sign up for the newsletters on individual ski holiday
websites if you want to be first to know about any special deals on offer (see below).
Forward Planning
So think ahead, take your time, and plan for your holiday in the
snow.
With forward thinking and some online searching, you can enjoy a
fantastic ski holiday without spending a fortune; leaving you free to relax and enjoy
yourself on the slopes without worrying about breaking the bank.
Just don't forget your Travel
Insurance.
