Brooke Schedneck grew up in New Jersey and went to college in
Boston.
After graduating from Boston University, with a religion major, she
travelled to Japan to teach English.
Brooke studied Japanese and further explored her interest in Japanese
religions. She loves travelling and really enjoyed her time in Japan.
Brooke says there's a lot to do in Japan, if you make the effort to
get out and about; from relaxing bathing in hot springs to exploring famous temples in
Kyoto.
Brooke is currently a Ph.D. candidate at Arizona State University and
was awarded one of the 2009-2010 Fulbright research grants to conduct fieldwork in
Thailand for her Ph.D. dissertation.
Her research focuses on the cultural and religious encounters between
Thai Buddhists and international meditators; exploring the question of how the dialogue
between Thai Buddhists and international meditators shapes mutual perceptions of religious
beliefs and practices.
