Aquatics
South Africa broke Australia' 400m freestyle relay world record, to win the gold medal -- in a time of 3 minutes, 13.17 seconds.   With America finishing third, Michael Phelps can no longer hope to beat Mark Spitz's record of seven gold medals. Holland slipped in between the two teams, to take the silver.

Basketball
Team USA slumped to a shock 73-92 defeat against Puerto Rico. The small island with a big heart showed true Olympic spirit in their morale boosting achievement, against the big brother of Basketball. Ahead by 22 at half-time, Puerto Rico held on to their lead and gave hope to other Olympic hopefulls in the sport.

Cycling
Australian Sara Carrigan swept past Judith Arndt on the final straight of the Women's Road Race around Athens, after sitting in her slipstream for most of the final lap. As Arndt looked over her left shoulder approaching the line, Carrigan snuck over to the right of the German and across the line for victory.
