1800-Countries.com >> 1800-Italy -- Visiting Italy

Italy is rather special and it's easy to understand why, in reply to our top 10 destinations survey, Italy was ahead of the competition as a favourite travel destination.

If you're into beaches, there are plenty of them encircling Italy's long and diverse coastline -- the shore around the boot extends 5,000 miles.

While the French Cte d'Azur may have glitz, the neighbouring Italian Riviera is delightful in its own right.

South of Naples is the scenic Amalfi Coast and the Adriatic has its pearls too.

Venture down to Puglia and you'll find some outstanding beaches and romantic grottos, seldom mentioned by the been there, done that crowd.

Winter sports fans will love skiing in the Italian Alps and Dolomites in the north of Italy,  while hikers can enjoy the fresh air and pristine lakes in the summer.

And of course the culture vulture has plenty of museums to visit. Indeed, much of Italy is a museum piece in itself.

Italy Travel Guide -- Italy is easily remembered by the dumbest of geography students as the country that is shaped like a boot, kicking Sicily further into the Mediterranean Sea. Find out more about Italy @ 1800-Italy.com
