Pope John Paul II's Travels in 1995

Apostolic Voyage 63

From January 11th to January 21st, Pope John Paul II travelled to Manila (Philippines); Port Moresby (Papua New Guinea); Sydney (Australia); and Colombo (Sri Lanka).

Pope in Papua New Guinea:
Traditionally dressed members of a welcoming party in Papua New Guinea greeted Pope John Paul II. The pope performed a beatification ceremony there as part of an 11-day Asian trip.

From May 20th to May 22nd Pope John Paul II travelled to Prague and Olomouc (Czech Republic); Skoczow, Bielsko-Biala and Zywiec (Poland); and Ostrava (Czech Republic again).

From June 3rd to June 4th, Pope John Paul II made a brief visit to Brussels (Belgium).

From June 30th to July 3rd, Pope John Paul II travelled to Bratislava, Nitra, Sastin, Kosice, Presov, Spisska Kapitula, Levoca, Velicke Pleso, Monti Tatra and Poprad (Slovakia).

Pope John Paul II travelled back to Africa, from September 14th to September 20th, visiting Yaoundé (Cameroon); Johannesburg and Pretoria (South Africa); and Nairobi (Kenya).

Apostolic Voyage 68

Pope John Paul II made his sixth trip to the United States, from October 4th to October 9th, visiting Newark, New York (addressing the United Nations on Oct. 5th, to commemorate the UN's 50th anniversary), Brooklyn and Baltimore.

Pope John Paul II and President Clinton:
Former First Lady Hillary Clinton and President Bill Clinton greeted the pope at an airport in Newark, N.J., on the start of his four-day visit to America.

From June 21st to June 23rd, Pope John Paul II visited Paderborn and Berlin (Germany) to make his long-awaited for speech, to a United Germany, at Brandenburg Gate.

This was The Pope's third visit to Germany in his pontificate, but the first since Reunification of East and West.

From September 6th to September 7th, Pope John Paul II travelled to Budapest, Pannonhalma and Gyor (Hungary).

Apostolic Voyage 74

From September 19th to September 22nd, Pope John Paul II travelled to Tours, St Laurent, Lorient, Ste Anne d'Auray and Reims (fifth visit to France).

With Communism down in Europe, John Paul II received the President of the Republic of Cuba, Fidel Castro Ruz (on November 19th).The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr. George Leonard Carey visited The Pope and The Church of Rome from December 3rd to December 6th; and the President of PLO and the Palestinian Authority, Yasser Arafat, arrived for an audience with John Paul II, on December 19th.
